If you've received PCS orders to Fort Gregg-Adams (formerly Fort Lee), congratulations — you're heading to one of the most important Army installations in the country. As the Home of Army Sustainment, the base trains logistics and sustainment professionals from across the force. Understanding the Area

Fort Gregg-Adams sits in Prince George County, just south of Hopewell. The base was renamed in 2023 to honor Lt. Gen. Arthur J. Gregg and Lt. Col. Charity Adams Earley — marking the first Army installation named for Black military members. It's a major installation with a large footprint, and the surrounding communities have grown to support it.

The closest towns are Hopewell (10 minutes), Petersburg (15 minutes), and Chester (20 minutes). Richmond is about 30 minutes north. Each has its own character, price point, and commute profile.

• Start your search early. The best homes near base go fast. If you're 60–90 days out, we should be talking now.
• Consider rent vs. buy. BAH in this area can make buying very affordable. I can run the numbers for your pay grade.

• Don't overlook the water. The James and Appomattox Rivers offer incredible boating, fishing, and dining. It's one of the best parts of living here.
